Ever wondered what those numbers are on the front of colour boxes? Ever been so baffled by them that you’ve just picked your favourite number only to end up looking like something out of a Disney film? Ever picked a box of colour up because the lady on the front looked nice and then realised you were looking at her face and not the BLACK hair which you now can’t get out for love, money or the 100 hair washes you’re now doing every day?
Well, wonder no more! Here are what all those numbers and decimal points mean.

Admit it, we’ve all been there. You think you can do exactly what us hairdressers do in the salon when it comes to colouring. You want to go dark again after being blond for ages because you’re bored of it, you buy the nicest chocolate brown you can find and you whack it on…only to discover when you’ve washed it out that you’ve gone GREEN!!!!! Or that beautiful golden blond you picked out to go on top of the, already too thick, highlights you’ve created actually is more like canary yellow and you can see yourself glowing in the [...] Continue Reading…
Here’s my first celebrity hair blog and what better way to kick start it with the iconic and beautiful Audry Hepburn. We’re all after the same rainbow’s end on this one, it’s a gorgeous classic!
How to create the classic Audrey Hepburn hairstyle
1. Three Steps to Audrey
You have to see this hairstyle in 3 parts. The back and sides, a classic yet tight french roll. The front, the finisher. And the iconic crown centre piece, the ‘beehive’ we all know and love.
Get your hair clean and dry (come on, you know the drill by now) then [...] Continue Reading…

I’ve included Pippa Middleton’s hair in the title too because on closer inspection their hair styles were very similar. The only difference was that Pippa Middleton’s [...] Continue Reading…
How do you create a bun, which is supposed to be messy, but you want it to look glamorous, not like you’ve just climbed a tree, picked out a crows nest and shoved it on top of your head?
1. Perfect prep and good, old fashioned, heated rollers
Wash, dry and smooth your hair so it’s clean and frizz free….especially on top. Decide what you’re going to do with the front section of hair. If you have a fringe, blow-dry that properly in to position and don’t put a roller in it at all. If your hair is long at the [...] Continue Reading…
When we’re not straightening our hair we’re most certainly trying to curl it. Big, bouncy, tight, spiral, loose, bohemian, soft. However you want your curls to look you want them to look healthy, shiny and frizz free….but, hopefully, not looking like Bo Peep!
1. Make sure hair is bone dry
For the same reasons as stated in the ‘how to straighten’ blog, it’s important to get your hair dry properly, otherwise your curls just won’t last and will drop in no time at all. Again, it’s fine just to rough dry your hair (much quicker and easier than trying to do it [...] Continue Reading…
Who’d have thought that a style would last over 10 years! Straightening has definitely outstayed it’s welcome by about 8 years but we all love it and it ain’t going anywhere…..so, if we’re going to be doing it for the next 10 years, we may as well do it well.
1. Use heat protecting oil
Most importantly, before anyone gets started on putting 200ºc ceramic plates anywhere near your hair, apply a good quality heat protection oil on to your wet hair, thoroughly and all the way through. We want sleekness, not a halo of frizzle around your head.
2. Make sure your [...] Continue Reading…
Washing hair is simple, right? Wrong! The difference between a good wash and a bad wash can make the difference between frizz bomb/grease ball and sleek Goddess!
There are a few mistakes people make when washing their hair which, if not made, can make a lot of difference to how your hair behaves while styling and, ultimately, looks.
It doesn’t take much but, if you’re guilty of any of the following, you won’t be getting the most out of your hair or the good quality products you’ve invested in.
Mistake 1. Not rinsing out the shampoo and/or the conditioner properly!
This can make [...] Continue Reading…
Picking a shampoo and conditioner is about getting a nice smelling one, preferably nice and fruity right? Wrong!
You need to invest in a good quality shampoo and conditioner. Preferably a salon only brand, such as MoroccanOil. Yes, they might be slightly more expensive, but because these products are more concentrated, and with better ingredients, they last you a lot longer because you don’t need as much. The mistake people make is that they don’t feel clean if the shampoo suds aren’t flowing out the bath tub. But this doesn’t need to happen if you get a good quality product.
